KWIK Motorsports was an idea that started back in the early 2010s with the intent to build and race trucks at local dirt track facilities on the Delmarva. Unfortunately, several setbacks occurred and it wasn’t until a conversation between friends ignited the drive to see the idea blossom into reality. Jay Lowman and Billy Cummings along with Sabrina Lowman and Shelley Strain, pooled their resources and various skill sets to create the initial iteration of the team with the first race car being one purchased already built from Pennsylvania.
While the team's name was already in place and was created using the first initial of each of Billy’s kids, the idea for numbering the car came from Jay who wanted to convey the message that he, along with the rest of the team, are staunch supporters of the Second Amendment and therefore the number 2A was chosen.
The team would spend several months modifying and adding safety features to the 2A and would eventually enter competition with the Delmarva Chargers Sport Compact Racing Club at the tail end of the 2020 season. In only the team’s fourth race, disaster would strike with Jay and the 2A being caught up in a wreck that would prove to be a blessing. After inspecting the damaged car, it was found to have several safety issues with regard to its structural integrity that were not apparently at initial purchase. A loaner car was provided by the folks from Waters East Garage in order for Jay to finish out the season and get valuable seat time in the front wheel drive race cars, and the team went back to the drawing board and determined that it would be best to build a car from the ground up. By the end of the 2020 season Jay was back on the track in the 2Av2 chassis.
The off season was spent revamping the car and a second car, the number 72, had been purchased so that Billy Cummings would be able to suit up adding a team mate out on the track. At the start of the 2021 season, Jay kicked things off with a career first win in the very first race and this set the tone for a season that would see him take home the first of three points championships.
In 2022 the team made its first expansion when Billy’s son Wyatt joined the team as a backup driver. Work also began on a third car which would be numbered as the 27W with the intent of Wyatt running the 72 and Billy using the new race car. Meanwhile, Jay continued to improve on the 2A’s performance. All during this time, the team would be expanding its reach through social media as well as brining on board a solid group of sponsors. There were also several trips off the Delmarva to compete against other four-cylinder clubs which would lead to the highlight of the 2022 season and a trip to race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The week-long event saw many ups and downs for the team, but Jay and the 2A would prove to the racing world that a little team from Delmarva could compete at the national level with a solid run that put the team in to the A-main and would see Jay got from 24th to 14th over 40 laps of intense racing thus garnering the Hard Charger award and also the respect of many long time racers and crews. 2022 was capped off with the second points championship for Jay in the DCSCRC.
2023 would see KWIK continue to set the tone in local four-cylinder racing with Jay and the 2A racking up win after win. Wyatt continued to get seat time in the 72 and Billy working hard with the 27W as the team’s chief mechanic, Jay, worked closely with Joey Waters and his staff at Water’s East Garage to upgrade the power plants to a more efficient platform. Derek Swafford was brought on board as the team’s backup driver and ran several hard-fought races during the season. The team would finish the year out with Jay’s third consecutive points championship and continuing improvement in sponsorship and marketing.
The 2024 season would be another solid one for KWIK Motorsports. The team became an LLC, travelled extensively to other states and tracks, added a fourth car (the 12H driven by John Healy), and driver Wyatt Cummings would record his first career win, ending the season with a total of three. He and his father switched cars at the beginning of the season to allow the young driver the opportunity to run a much stronger engine package and be competitive.
The team continues to grow and who knows what is in store for 2025, but one thing is for certain, we will do our best to bring quality racing entertainment to the fans.
